1st and 3rd place at the English language competition for the Handelsakademie Bregenz
Justin Fashola (4bdb) and Elias Vogel (5adb) represented our school at this year’s statewide English language contest for vocational schools, which took place at Wifi Dornbirn on March 1st, 2023.
In the first round, the 18 candidates had to introduce themselves, answer questions by the moderator and demonstrate that they could express themselves fluently and spontaneously by sharing their impressions of a given picture. Apart from the audience, an international jury of three native speakers from England, South Africa, and the US was listening to and assessing their performances.
Both Justin and Elias mastered this task with ease and thus advanced to the second round, where the remaining candidates had to participate in a panel discussion on the potential and risks of using artificial intelligence in educational settings.
Due to the excellent arguments they presented in these discussions, both Justin and Elias were nominated for the final round. Here, they then had to elaborate on how schools would have to change in the coming years in order to allow for the successful implementation of artificial intelligence. Both did an excellent job at emphasizing the important role of teachers, pointing out increasing demands regarding students’ self-discipline and highlighting changing requirements for technical equipment. The jury was impressed by Justin’s outstanding delivery and awarded him 3rd place in the competition, while Elias’s amazing performance convinced the jury so much (“We couldn’t have done it better ourselves”) that he was declared the winner of this year’s contest.
Congratulations to both of them on these tremendous accomplishments!
